Course Purpose: This course provides K-12 Educators of any discipline with foundational
knowledge of trauma symptoms in children and adults, symptoms and behaviors of untreated
trauma, and the learning challenges that come with being traumatized.
This course expands on the subject of trauma and trauma-informed classrooms and is the second
in a 3-part series on Trauma-Informed Education. It can be taken alone or within the series.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Name the signs and symptoms of trauma in children by age group
- Name the cognitive, behavioral, physical, and psychological symptoms of trauma in adults.
- Identify the consequences of untreated trauma
- Identify behaviors in the classroom that may indicate trauma in a student
- Explain why it is harder for traumatized students to learn
